The John Michael Kohler Art Center (JMKAC) has had a dedicated gift shop since its expansion in 2000. But, it hadn’t been renovated since that time. Retailworks was tasked with providing more flexible display and merchandising opportunities, a more functional and branded transaction counter, and a more shoppable layout. To better serve the JMKAC mission of generating a creative exchange between artists and the public, we provided spaces within SHOP for the display of art from The John Michael Kohler Art Center collection and the Arts + Industry program. We also opened up the front of the store with floor to ceiling windows and more welcoming doors so visitors entering the Center had immediate visibility into the store. New flooring, paint colors, finishes, and retail fixture system were provided. A small office space was created behind the cash wrap, which opened up the old office space for needed storage.
