Turn Browsers into Buyers with the Right Demo Setup

One of the major conversation points about behavior in retail lately is all about experience. And while it has been thoroughly communicated that experience is important and a major sales driver, it can be hard to know how to facilitate these interactive moments for your store. One way is with product demos. But often the follow-up question is: “Where is the best place to do a demo?”

Here are 5 locations where you can implement interactive demos, promote your merchandise, and elevate the experience:

1. Your Window Display

A live demo in your window is a great attention-getter from the street and makes it easy to interact with customers when they enter the store. Whether you’re refinishing furniture, creating a piece of jewelry, or making fudge, don’t underestimate this space for drawing people in and generating conversation when they walk through the door.

2. An Elevated Stage

A small raised platform in a corner or against a wall instantly makes a product demonstration feel like an event. The slight elevation draws the eye and signals something worth seeing.

Being near a wall also facilitates the use of a receptacle for running equipment, whether it be a blender, a glue gun, or an extra receipt printer for all those sales.

3. Center of the Store

Drop a bold banner or oversized arrow from the ceiling and customers will see it from all parts of the store. The elevated line of sight draws their attention.  This works especially well if you already use a central spot to showcase new arrivals as your customers will know right where to look.

4. Near the Checkout Counter

Short on staff? Roll a table next to the checkout counter so you can demo between transactions. Just keep an eye on traffic flow. If your checkout area gets busy quickly, this spot can create congestion rather than excitement so respond accordingly.

5. Outside: Parking Lot or Sidewalk

Now that we are in the midst of summer, catch customers as they’re walking by. A portable kiosk with everything you need for the demo, along with an attention-getting branded umbrella, will draw a crowd. Add music or a summer treat for extra appeal.

Studies have shown that the more a customer interacts with a product, the more likely they are to purchase it. Pick one of these spots to show off your amazing merchandise and give customers something to talk about and an experience they won’t soon forget.
