Five tips on the fifth of each month: What five things can you do in one month to make a difference on your selling floor?

  1. Do you know that focal point displays are the best way to get customers to walk your entire store without thoughtful effort? Your storefront and/or window displays are your business’s first focal point(s). Make sure they make a statement from a distance.
  2. The first interior focal point should be located within 10’ of the entrance, ie: a set of nesting tables showcasing seasonal products. This focal point should not block traffic into the store, but just serve to grab attention and pull customers in. (Hint: angle the nesting tables.)
  3. The next focal point display should be elevated slightly to draw people further into the store, ie: a tall end cap display, an elevated platform with a mannequin, or a shelf mounted on a wall at 6’ or higher, with a fun display.
  4. Keep elevating the focal points as they are placed further into the store to draw the eye in. The feet always follow the eyes! It could be a large, illuminated sign, a unique lighting fixture, or something hanging from the ceiling.
  5. Finally, the back wall serves as the final focal point. It may be a great display of floor-to-ceiling merchandise, a cool wall color or wall covering, or, the store’s logo on the wall behind the checkout counter.
  6. Change the displays often to keep customers moving, engaging, and sharing!
